Terms of service
These terms cover the FirstDrive instructor app and web portal — the diary, your pupil records, and the £8 a month subscription. They form an agreement between you and us, so they're worth the ten minutes.
Version 1.0 · in effect from 10 August 2026 · covers the FirstDrive instructor app and web portal.

Who we are

What FirstDrive is
FirstDrive is business software for driving instructors. It holds your diary, your pupil records, your expenses and your mileage, and it works out figures from what you put in. That is the whole of it.
Specifically, and so there is no doubt:
- We do not take payment from your pupils. Your pupils pay you, in whatever way you already arrange with them, and we never see it.
- We never hold, handle or route your lesson money. Marking a lesson paid in FirstDrive is a note you make for yourself; it moves nothing.
- We take no commission, on any lesson, ever, under these terms.
- We do not introduce pupils to you. There is no marketplace in this version of FirstDrive.
- We are not your accountant. Totals, mileage and exports are there to help you keep records; what you file is your responsibility.
Your account
You need to be a driving instructor or trainee instructor working in the United Kingdom, and at least 18. One account is one instructor — keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has it.
You are responsible for what goes into your account and for the accuracy of it. If you delete something, it is gone.
Your pupils' information
The records you keep about your pupils are yours. You decide what to collect and why; we hold it on your behalf and do as you instruct. In data-protection terms you are the controller of those records and we are your processor, and the Privacy Notice sets out what that means in practice.
Two things follow from that, and they are yours to handle rather than ours. You need a lawful basis for the pupil information you enter — in practice, the lesson arrangement itself — and your pupils should know you keep records of them. And if you enter something sensitive, such as a medical note explaining an adjustment, you take on the extra obligations that come with it.
The subscription
- Three months free from the day you create your account. No card, no contract, and nothing is taken at the end unless you decide to subscribe.
- After that, £8 a month including VAT, billed monthly in advance. We use Stripe to take the payment; we never see or store your card.
- Cancel any time from your settings. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, and we do not refund part-months.
- If a payment fails or you do not subscribe, your account becomes read-only rather than deleted: everything you have entered stays readable and exportable, you just cannot add or move lessons.
- We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
What we ask of you
Use FirstDrive for your own driving-instruction business, lawfully. Don't try to break into it, scrape it, resell access, or upload anything unlawful or malicious. Don't use it to contact people who have asked you not to.
Availability
We aim to keep FirstDrive running and we take backups, but we can't promise it will never be unavailable. Maintenance, an outage at a supplier, or something we haven't thought of can all interrupt it. Keep your own record of anything you can't afford to lose — the CSV export is there for exactly that.
Our responsibility to you, and its limits
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
Subject to that, we are not liable for lost profits, lost business or lost opportunity, and our total liability to you in any twelve-month period is limited to the subscription fees you paid us in that period. FirstDrive is a business tool supplied to you as a business, so the consumer-contract rules don't apply to it.
Ending it
You can stop using FirstDrive and delete your account whenever you like, from your settings. Deleting your account removes your data from the live system; export anything you want to keep first.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to. If we close your account and you haven't breached anything, we'll refund the unused part of what you have paid.
Changes to these terms
These terms are versioned rather than quietly edited. This is Version 1.0, and it covers the instructor tool as it stands. If we change something that affects you, we'll tell you by email and publish a new version with a new effective date.
The marketplace, when it launches, will be a different arrangement — it involves us introducing pupils to you and a fee for doing so. It will have its own terms, which you will have to read and accept before you can use it. Nothing in this version signs you up to it or lets us charge you for it.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
